History
This is the first house of many. I received this house
20 years ago when I was a freshman in college. My Dad and I put her
together during holiday break. Actually this is about how she looked at
that time. Since then, she's moved through four houses and survived a
stay in a storage bin. She's survived twins and a variety of pets
with only minimal damage to the gingerbread.
She has never really been finished on the inside, but as
I've pulled her out to work on her from time-to-time, has gone through
several restorations.
Story
This house belongs in a small town in the Midwest in the
late 1800's. It's owned by a prosperous, but not wealthy, couple with a
small child. The couple owns the local mill in town. The father
moved to the Midwest in his youth from the East Coast and married the
mother who was raised in a small farming community and trained to become
a teacher. Because of this, they have the ability to have some of
the finer items that a typical, Midwestern family might not have such as
indoor plumbing and a bath. They own a large number of books and artwork
brought with the father or sent from his family. They have gas lighting.
Because they are located in the Midwest, and because of the mother's
background, the house still has an air of practicality. Like most of
their neighbors, they don't employ any help such as maids or
housekeeping. |
